Deferred Members who are registered users of 'MyPension', can now securely view their 2026 Annual Benefit Statement online.
Revised Early Retirement Reduction Factors from 1 August 2026
In accordance with Regulation 2(3) of the Local Government Pension Scheme Regulations 2013 and following guidance received from the Secretary of State, we can now confirm that the early retirement factors have been updated with effect from 1 August 2026 and will be applied to benefits taken voluntarily before Normal Pension Age.
Special Bulletin for LGPS members 2026
Active and Deferred members will shortly receive a 4-page 'Special Bulletin for LGPS members 2026' which contains full information about the "Access and Fairness" changes introduced by the Government from 1 April 2026.
Improving access and fairness in the LGPS
The Government has introduced changes to the LGPS to make the Scheme fairer for all members. Most changes took effect from 1 April 2026, and some improvements apply retrospectively.
Pensions for Councillors and Mayors (Elected Members)
The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) provides pension benefits for Councillors and Mayors (referred to as ‘elected members’) in England from 11 May 2026.
You are eligible to join if you receive an allowance or salary from Knowsley Council, Liverpool City Council, Sefton Council, St. Helens Council, Wirral Council, or Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. The Liverpool City Region Mayor is also eligible to join.
2026/2027 contribution pay bands are now in operation
The 2026/2027 employee pay bands and contribution rates will operate in the LGPS from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2027.

The Government has confirmed that local government pensions will rise by 3.8% from 6 April 2026. Local government pensions are increased each year in line with the cost of living to retain their spending power.
