Divorce and your pension

In the event of divorce or the dissolution of a civil partnership you may be asked to provide details of your LGPS pension.

What information will I need?

You will need specific information about your LGPS benefits as part of the proceedings for a divorce or dissolution.

Earmarking Orders

If the Court makes an Earmarking Order, some of your LGPS benefits are earmarked for your ex-spouse or ex-civil partner.

What happens to my pension?

If you get divorced or dissolve a civil partnership, the Court will take the value of your pension into account.

Death benefits after a divorce

Your ex-spouse or civil partner will no longer be entitled to a partner’s pension if you die before them.

Pension Sharing Orders

If the Court issues a pension sharing order, a percentage of your LGPS benefits are affected.
