Your Annual Benefit Statement

Your Benefit Statement is an important annual record of your membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) as it provides a summary of:

  • the benefits that you have already built up
  • an estimate of what you might build up in the future if you remain in the Scheme
  • how the McCloud remedy might affect your pension, and
  • the death benefits that may be payable to your beneficiaries.

Your statement shows as at 31st March:

  • your employment details
  • your pensionable pay used to calculate your pension
  • the value of your Pension Account
  • the value of your automatic lump sum for pension benefits built up before 1 April 2008
  • the value of Survivor’s pension and Death Grant
  • how your pension benefits are calculated and increased since your previous statement
  • the annual pensions increase applied in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI)
  • the date at which you can take your pension unreduced
  • the projected value of your pension, any automatic lump sum and annual survivor (partner/spouse’s) pension, if you remain in the Scheme until your Normal Pension Age (NPA)
  • whether you have McCloud Remedy Protection
  • the current value of any underpin amount due if you are protected by the McCloud Remedy

We have produced guidance to help you better understand your Annual Benefit Statement and the McCloud Remedy Protection.

Receiving your Statement

By the end of August each year, we provide you with an Annual Benefit Statement for each active membership at 31st March that you held with us. We send it either by post or make it available to you online.

If you are registered user of our online service 'MyPension', you will receive an email notifying you that your statement is available, with instructions how to view, download and print it from your account.

Registered MyPension users can also:

  • view, download and print all Annual Benefit Statements since 2013, and
  • use retirement calculators to help you project what you might receive when you retire, and
  • manage their account settings and update contact information all in one place, and
  • manage their nomination of who should receive the Death Grant should they pass away.

Members who have either written to us, or emailed us, requesting a paper copy of their statement be posted to them, will receive their statement in late August/early September.

Checking your Statement

To ensure we keep you informed about changes to your pension benefits it is important that you check your statement each year. You should tell us of any errors or changes to your personal circumstances, such as your name, address, email address, partnership status or death grant expression of wish nomination.

The information we use to update your Pension Account and produce your statement comes from your employer.  During each scheme year (which runs from 1 April to 31 March), they will pass changes to your employment and details of your pensionable pay to us.

If you have any issues with your employment or pay details on your statement, please contact your employer.
