Sometimes, important 'material' changes are made to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). When this happens, we must tell all members who may be affected.
Although we regularly share updates on our website, we are contacting Active and Deferred members of the LGPS directly about the 'Access and Fairness' changes introduced by the Government from 1 April 2026.
These changes are designed to make the Scheme fairer for everyone, and some of the improvements apply to past periods and entitlements as well.
The changes relate to:
- Equalisation of survivor benefits
- Removing age restrictions on paying death grant lump sums
- Removing the gender pension gap
- Changes to contributions when buying back ‘lost pension’ following authorised absences
Active and Deferred members will shortly receive a 4-page 'Special Bulletin for LGPS members 2026' which contains more information about these changes as well as other articles on interest.
A copy of this bulletin will be also added to the 'Fund documents and forms' page of the 'Documents and Uploads' section of your MyPension account.
Registered users can log into their MyPension account here.
If you have never registered for MyPension before, or the last time you logged in was before 27th January 2026 then please click ‘Create an account’ here.
